Sore throat is also known as Pharyngitis. Almost everyone gets sore throat at one time or another. Children get it more often than adults. Sore throat is more commonly caused by a virus and to a very lesser extent by bacteria. But how can one identify whether this is due to a viral infection or a bacteria? If your sore throat lasts more than a few days and/or if it is accompanied with fever, nausea, or abdominal pain, consult a doctor. In other cases, sore throat heals soon themselves without any complications and can be easily treated with ingredients right from your kitchen.

Ginger Tea



Drink ginger tea


Chamomile Tea



Warm chamomile tea also gives relief from throat pain as it fights against inflammation. Steep 2 tea bags in one cup of boiling water and then sip the tea. One can add honey if needed.


Aroma Oils



Inhale the fragrances of essential oils such as sandalwood, lavender, eucalyptus, etc.


Turmeric



Gargle the mixture of turmeric, salt, and water. Add one teaspoon of salt and a pinch of turmeric powder to a glass of warm water and drink when it is cool.


Basil Leaves



Boil basil leaves (Tulsi) in water and drink it.


Indian Spices



Sip a decoction of Indian spices such as fennel seeds, cumin seeds, black pepper corn, coriander seeds, and dry ginger.


Honey and Lime Juice



Sip a cup of honey and lime juice mixed with water.


Candies



Suck on hard candy such as lozenges available over-the-counter.

Do not smoke or use tobacco products.


Soups



Eating can be quite tough if you have a sore throat. Hot and sour chicken soup will help in soothing pain as well as fight inflammation.


Steam



An age-old home remedy for sore throat is inhale steam. Heat a pot of water and lean over the pot, and then place a towel over your head and then breathe in the steam with your nose and mouth too.

Drink plenty of water and fluids. This will keep your throat soothe and moist. Above all, liquids can wash away any bacterium that is lingering in your throat.
