Dark armpits or dark underarms refer to the dark portion of the skin that leans to be darker in color as compared with rest of the body. This occurs in both men and women but generally women feel more worried of this. But you do not need to worry about it, as there are many home remedies to help you get rid of dark underarms and armpits.

Causes of Dark Underarms

Having dark underarms or dark armpits is neither a disease nor a medical condition. Find below the cuses for darker underarms.

Wearing dark colored clothes every day tends to create friction between the cloth and underarms that leads to darkened underarms and armpits. Try wearing loose outfits made with a material that allow your underarms to get enough air. 

Excessive use of hair removal creams may cause discoloration of skin that leads to darkened underarms and dark armpits.

Excessive usage of perfumes or deodorants directly on to your skin makes your under arms darken due to some chemicals present in them.

Shaving is another major cause for dark underarms, as this only cut off the hair at the skin surface leading to hair thickening which increases skin pigmentation.

Hereditary factors can also contribute to dark underarms.

Excessive body weight or hormonal factors can also lead to darkening of the skin and pigmentation.

Excessive sweating results in skin darkening due to the bacterial that is present in underarms skin is trapped leading to skin darkening.

Home Remedies for Dark Underarms

Lemon is considered to be a natural cleanser which helps get rid of dark underarms. Try to rub a slice of lemon on your underarms and keep it on for 20-30 minutes every day, which will slowly lighten the dark area. Instead of deodorants, try applying some moisturizer to soften the skin.

Potato is another natural bleaching agent that helps in lightening the darker area of the skin. Slice a piece of potato and rub on the area or just grate the potato and apply this juice to the dark area and then leave it for 15-25 minutes and then wash it off with cold water.

Coconut oil can be used to lighten the area. Simply rub a small amount of coconut oil everyday on the darkened area and see the results.

Make a mixture of sandalwood powder and rose water to form a thick paste and apply it underarms, leave this for 20-30 minutes and then wash it off with cold water. This helps to prevent any body odor and whiten the dark area.

Make a mixture of cucumber juice and lemon with a pinch of turmeric powder to make a thick paste and apply it on the dark underarms. 

Baking soda is natural skin bleach, mix baking soda with little water and apply more often on the underarms.

Orange peel powder mixed with rose water and milk applied on the dark underarms can lighten the skin tone of your dark underarms.
Leave this for 15-20 minutes and then wash it with cold water.

Gram flour is another most popular ingredient that can be used to get rid of dark underarms. Make a paste with a bit of turmeric powder and apply it daily leaving it on for 15-20 minutes and then wash off with water.

Vinegar is also known to help get rid of dark underarms. Make a mixture of rice flour with vinegar and apply this paste in your underarms and leave this for 10-15 minutes and wash it off with warm water. This remedy does not just lighten the skin tone but also helps kill the germs that cause the underarms to stink.

Waxing is another way to get rid of darker underarms. Try the below simple home remedy for waxing: 

Take 2 cups of sugar, ¼ cup of honey, ¼ lemon juice, and ¼ cup of water.

Take a saucepan and then boil all the above ingredients together.
Stir it well till it turns to a deep brown color.

Now remove the saucepan and let the mixture to cool down.
Once it is done (cooled), you can use it for waxing.
