Breastfeeding And Pumping

Breastfeeding and pumping

Women who are unable to breastfeed their babies directly can express their milk by hand manually or using an electric breast pump, this will help you to continue the production of milk.  Before you start express breast milk, make sure you wash your hands with soap and water or hand cleanser and make sure your breasts and nipples are neat and clean.

Find below the ways to express breast milk:

Hand expression

A Woman needs to use her hand to massage and compress her breasts to remove the milk out of it. This comes out well with practice and gets easier and can be as fast as pumping with practice.

Manual breast pump

A Woman needs to use her hand and wrist to operate a device to pump the milk. This also requires a practice and is useful for the women who are away from their baby once in a while but there is a risk of breast infection with the devices if not treated (cleaned) properly.

Automatic electric breast pump

This device runs on battery or requires a plug into an electrical outlet. This can be very easy for many women. This allows pumping one breast at a time or both the breasts at same time and double pumping saves time pumping more milk in less time.

You can keep germs away from getting into the milk by keeping the equipment neat and clean washing with soap and water and keeping it air dry.
